First attempt at card weaving

 As the inkle loom was empty I thought I'd try tablet weaving (after browsing a fair few websites and YouTube tutorials!) - I made a set of 12 cards and punched holes in the corners.

I decided to make the edge cards with 4 dark threads ("yarn and colours must have" in dark grey) and then 8 more cards with 2 dark threads and 2 light threads (a light minty green)

...and then I played!

stripes... 


diamonds... 

random... 

I think perhaps I will leave card-weaving for a while, I'll revisit it when i have had time time to find out more about different thread / cotton options etc through properly learning to Inkle weave - on my own loom, which will be hand made by a gentleman in Cornwall! 

I can't wait!

Friendship wraps available now!

As the title suggests I thought I would start selling the friendship wraps (bracelets) now whilst the removable wraps are being tested out for me... These are about 12 inches long - 1inch loop, 6 inch wrap, and 5 inches of tails to allow for different wrist sizes... They can be a flat wrap (like the bottom two) or spiral knot (like the middle - pink yellow and blue one) or a mixture (like the 2nd one down). 1st attempt: Plain weave

I am so pleased! The lovely Jenny has very kindly loaned me an inkle loom! I couldn't wait to get it set up - so I pulled out my cones of stranded cotton and starting warping the loom (wrapping the threads around it), but about halfway realised something didn't look right and I had soon realised I had been bringing the open / unheddled threads over the wrong peg.... so I started again! It went much quicker the 2nd time around. Last night I made a start and seemed to get into a good rhythm straight away.... but time had crept up on me and I had to put it away. This afternoon I took it off the loom, with 1m of band approx 3/4 inch wide. I really can't wait to order a loom now! Sara  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bed runners...

  In between other projects I like to make bed runners for dementia patients... All they ask is for blankets to be approx 140cm x 50cm - crochet, knitted or quilted etc. They are used on the dementia wards to help patients identify their beds. I try to make each one completely individual, with different colours and stitches - it gives a great opportunity to practise new patterns without committing to a full size blanket!
